Evaluation of a KfW wind power project in China

An ex post evaluation of the financing of a 50 MW wind farm in China was carried out for the KfW development bank. Starting with an on-site plant visit, we evaluated the economic rate of return (ERR) of the project from an energy system perspective. In addition, we prepared an outlook on the expected future profitability of the project given the massive wind farm curtailments in China. (2017)

Evaluation of 12 ICI projects

Ex post evaluation of 12 energy projects funded by the International Climate Initiative (ICI) of the Federal Ministry of the Environment. The service included desktop review based on project documentation and desktop research, as well as the review of project activities and impacts. The analyzed projects included energy efficiency as well as renewable heating, cooling and power generation projects worldwide. (2016-2018)

“Is fair lithium from Chile possible?”

The high water consumption required for lithium extraction is speeding up the desertification process around the salt lakes of Latin America’s so-called “lithium triangle”. The debate highlights general problems with the extraction of raw materials. But international companies can influence extraction methods – and there are plenty of different approaches. The tour was organized by the German Federal Foreign Office and included discussions with high-ranking representatives of Taiwan’s power sector and government advisors. (2016)

Project proposal for energy-efficient CHP in Chile

Cogeneration (CHP) plays an increasingly important role in the industrial and commercial field: the distributed combined production of electricity and warmth is cost-effective and halves the emission of greenhouse gases. For the market introduction of CHP in Chile, we supported the GIZ with the development of a program proposal. Our services included research, profitability calculations, the development of working lines and the definition of indicators for success monitoring. (2015)
